Consumers will be able to create their own premium KitKats using the first direct-to-consumer service from Nestlé Confectionery.
Called KitKat Chocolatory, the service enables consumers to visit the ‘Create Your Break’ online store and design an eight-finger KitKat from four types of chocolate and 14 ingredients (see list below). Nestlé said around 1,500 different flavour combinations could be produced.
The consumer can also personalise the packaging before the KitKat is handmade and delivered. Pricing for the web shop is to be confirmed, but is likely to be around £14.
Nestlé said the KitKat Chocolatory products had been developed by confectioners in-house at the company’s site in York, and that the company had created a new infrastructure for the business model.
“The introduction of KitKat Chocolatory is all about the demand for more luxury, premium confectionery and the opportunity to personalise a product, which is a trend that continues to grow and grow,” said Nestlé UK & Ireland CEO Stefano Agostini.
Alongside the customisable option, the range offers six special-edition KitKat Chocolatory flavours including Zingtastic Gin & Tonic and Springtime in Japan.
A further eight Best of British KitKats, inspired by traditional British flavours such Dandelion & Burdock, Marmalade, Cherry Bakewell and Eton Mess, will be available from this week in 30 John Lewis stores. The retailer is also offering a ‘Create Your Break’ experience from a 2,000 sq ft pop-up.
“I think our customers will love these exciting new flavours the experience of making their own KitKat,” said Rachel Costello, John Lewis gift food buyer. “There are so many options that everyone can find their perfect flavour.”
