Bakers across the UK are gearing up for Real Bread week, which kicks off tomorrow (24 February) and runs until 4 March.
Launched by the Real Bread Campaign in 2009, Real Bread Week is an annual celebration of additive-free loaves and the people who make them. The 2018 week marks its tenth anniversary.
The Real Bread Campaign is encouraging bakeries and baking schools to get involved via real bread classes, tastings, feasts and social media activity. Consumers, meanwhile, are encouraged to pick up a loaf at their local bakeries or get hands-on and bake their own.
Activities are taking place across the country including Bread Ahead Bakery School’s baking competition at Borough Market in London; a bakers’ questions time at Bathford Village Shop and Café’s near Bath; and a ‘soil to slice’ gathering at Scotland the Bread.
Online, bakers are encouraged to get involved using the #RealBreadWeek and share their one minute #dayintheloaf real bread video clips.
