Consumer demand for healthier breads has led malted ingredients supplier Muntons to double output at its flake manufacturing site. The firm is now capable of supplying more than 10,000 tonnes of malted flakes per year.

Muntons said: "Much of the increase is consumer-driven, with people looking for healthier and more interesting breads."

The Whole Grain Council recently confirmed that malted flakes can be categorised as 100% whole grains, and have produced a new stamp for Muntons to use on its products to promote this.

Andrew Suett, Muntons’ sales and marketing director, said the flakes enabled bakeries and food manufacturers to satisfy growing consumer demand for whole grains, and their associated health benefits.
