Cotswolds-based bakery La Tradition has been fined around £25k after pleading guilty to six charges of hygiene issues.

Owner of Willersey-based La Tradition, Regis Roze, had to pay a total of £24,670, and was fined £4,000 for each of the offences, ordered to pay £500 costs and a £150 victim surcharge. La Tradition is based in Willersey, Gloucestershire, with retail outlets in Chipping Campden and Oxfordshire.

The charges included storage of food in mouldy containers, a lack of suitable hand-washing facilities and the use-of-out of date food.

This is not the first time the business has been fined –  14 months ago, rats and mice were spotted on site.

A Cotswold District Council representative described the poor hygiene standards to the court and said it was clear La Tradition had not learnt lessons from their previous prosecution.

Speaking after the hearing, councillor Sue Coakley, cabinet member for environment at Cotswold District Council, said: “It is disappointing that La Tradition was unable to learn from last year’s prosecution and that council officers have had to take this company to court for a second time, but it was clearly necessary in this instance to protect the health of the public.”

In August, Huddersfield-based bakery and deli La Jawaab closed over hygiene concerns after an infestation of cockroaches.
