Pret A Manger has revealed the four sandwiches created for its new Vegan Classics range.
Four classic sandwiches have been reimagined to make the range, which will be available exclusively at Veggie Pret stores.
Pret said its food innovation managers had focused on the “clever use of vegetables” to mimic the flavours of the meat and fish originals, instead of using “mock” meat or fish.
The range includes:
- Vegan Chuna Mayo: a take on the Pole & Line Caught Tuna Mayo & Cucumber Baguette, the Vegan Classic combines chickpeas and vegan mayo seasoned with a sprinkling of pickled onions, chopped capers and parsley, finished with a squeeze of lemon and served with sliced cucumber, red onion and rocket on a white baguette.
- The VLT: a recreation of the Best Ever BLT, the VLT pairs roasted shiitake mushroom ‘rashers’ with sliced tomatoes, green salad and vegan mayo, served on malted bread.
- Vegan Eggless Mayo & Cress: a combination of tofu and vegan mayo finished with fresh cress and seasoning and served on a white baguette.
- Vegan Hoisin Mushroom Wrap: a reimagined version of the Hoisin Duck Salad Wrap, this Vegan Classic comprises glazed mushrooms in hoisin sauce, served with cucumber, pickled cabbage and carrot salad and finished with sliced spring onion, coriander and baby leaf spinach.
“We’ve worked really hard to ensure that The Vegan Classics have all the tastes and textures of the original sandwiches they were inspired by,” said Hannah Dolan, global head of food innovation at Pret.
“As Veggie Pret grows, we’re really excited to be able to reveal the range of Vegan Classics. This is all part of our mission to make it easier for customers to eat less meat, by offering delicious vegan and vegetarian food.”
The range will be available from 24 October, in line with the opening of the new Veggie Pret site at Canary Wharf.
