Over 90% of trade union members have voted in favour of strike action at 2 Sisters Food Group’s Corby plant.
Following a ballot over pay and conditions, 231 votes were registered in favour of the strike, with just 21 against, according to Tony Lewis, regional officer, Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU).
Lewis told British Baker that the union had informed 2 Sisters that members would be taking one day of action on 3 March.
He added that the union was “willing and ready to sit down” with 2 Sisters to resolve the matter.
A meeting is being held tomorrow (30 January) between 2 Sisters and BFAWU to discuss options.
“At the end of the day, it is as we said: we want a resolution to what our members are saying. The company promised a pay rise in August 2013. We accept that these are difficult times, but all sister-sites similar to the Corby plant have had a pay rise.”
Prior to the result of the ballot, Lewis told British Baker that staff at the Corby plant faced the prospect of new shift patterns, which would result in members working longer hours.
