Mincemeat and fillings supplier James Fleming & Co has been acquired by Zeelandia.
Manchester-based James Fleming & Co, which was established in 1862 and is currently owned by German business Südzucker Group, produces fillings including mincemeat, jams, jellies and caramel.
Zeelandia said the manufacturer’s expertise and strong market position would enable it to expand its UK bakery ingredients offer and grow its customer base.
Demand for fruit products and fillings continued to grow, said Zeelandia, which already has two production facilities for fruit products - one in Belgium and one in Czechia (The Czech Republic).
“James Fleming & Co has a long-standing tradition for quality products, and considerable expertise in meeting the needs of industrial bakeries,” said Zeelandia UK managing director David Amos, adding that Flemings had a culture of highly valuing people.
“These traditions and standards will prove just as valuable once they are integrated into Zeelandia.”
The sale will be effective from 1 January 2017, when James Fleming & Co will become a part of Zeelandia UK.
Zeelandia UK, which will operate from its current site in Billericay and the James Fleming & Co site in Ashton in Makerfield near Manchester, is part of global bakery ingredients business Royal Dutch Zeelandia.
Zeelandia has 30 subsidiaries, 20 of which are production sites.
