    Bakery strong for Sara Lee

    Sara Lee has reported strong sales performance within its North American fresh bakery division, in its first-quarter results to 27 September 2008. Net sales have increased by 17.1% to $571 million (£370m) and unit volumes rose by 6.6%, driven by volume growth for branded and private-label fresh bakery products, according to a company statement.

    Associated British Food’s (ABF) results for the year ended 13 September 2008, have revealed positive revenue growth despite economic challenges, according to a statement released by the company, with group revenue up 21% to £8.2bn. Operating profit for the food, ingredient and retail group stands at £554m, whilst adjusted operating profit has increased 7% to £664m.
