The Craft Bakers Association (CBA) has appointed Nick Harris as its new chairman with immediate effect.

Harris was voted into the position by the CBA directors at a board meeting on 21 June 2022 following the resignation of previous incumbent George Fuller after a decade in the role.

“I am honoured that the directors of the CBA have invited me to continue with George Fuller’s great work over the last 10 years and look forward to working with them and [director of operations] Karen Dear and the CBA team at Ware,” he said.

Harris has worked in the baking industry for more than three decades with companies including Bako South Eastern, where he held the role of managing director before retiring in December 2021. He joined the CBA board of directors the same year and also served as chairman for the Craft Bakers Week campaign. Outside of the bakery sector, Harris has worked with the NFU on the sugar commodity board.

“Whilst not a baker, I have been actively involved with the craft baker sector for many years from a supplier perspective and therefore have a strong understanding of the challenges facing our members, especially at the moment,” Harris said.

“The CBA serves a large number of businesses of varying sizes, almost all of which are privately owned, so a strong association is more relevant than ever, to make sure all the voices are heard in the right places and that it remains relevant and attractive to all members,” he added.
