Cornish Bakery is on the hunt for a new managing director to ‘lead the brand to the next level’ with plans to double or triple its shop estate.

The independent bakery chain has expanded its retail footprint in recent months up to a current 60 shops, stretching from St Ives down in Cornwall across to Norwich in the East Midlands, and as far north as Annandale Water Motorway Service Area in Dumfries, Scotland.

Having developed new locations in Truro, Canterbury, Salisbury, Harrogate, Norwich and Cheltenham during the latter stage of last year, a LinkedIn post on Tuesday 23 January revealed the company’s first new site for 2024 would be opening in Lewes, East Sussex in March.

The new MD is to work alongside Cornish Bakery founder and owner Steve Grocutt, who said his company was “winning beautifully” after recently achieving ‘Outstanding’ recognition in its inaugural entry into the Best Companies to Work For awards competition.

“Our customer reviews are industry leading. We are building unique new bakeries in each location across the UK at an impressive rate, making us one of the country’s fastest growing bakery companies, whilst still retaining our independence,” added Grocutt.

“And now we’re on the hunt for an impressive person who can lead our brand to the next level and continue our shared mission of redefining what a bakery is does, and can be. All whilst nourishing our teams and customers on the way.”

Describing his company as one of the leading modern high-end bakeries in the world, Grocutt called it an “undeniably exciting time for that person to join our journey”, while confirming expansion plans to double or triple in size. He noted the business was founder-led, deeply independent and self-financed, all of which brings new horizons and self-driven opportunities for the right person to create and deliver their own brave and bold future-facing growth strategy.

A rounded commercial business leader, forward thinking, pro-active, and motivated by identifying and maximizing opportunities were among the qualities listed in the job brief for Cornish Bakery’s MD role.

The position is said to have already received many applications, so suitable candidates are advised to move quickly and contact Debbie Reynolds at Troika Recruitment.
