Bakers are being invited to an open day at The School of Artisan Food in Worksop, Nottinghamshire.

Taking place on 24 January, the event has been organised by the Real Bread Campaign and will consist of a series of short talks from members of the industry, including Tom Baker of Loaf Social Enterprise, who will highlight community-supported bakeries and how his hobby became a home-based microbakery and eventually a high street business.

Other speakers include Mark Simmonds of Co-operatives UK, who will be discussing making local food work support for small bakery enterprises, as well as Andrew Whitley of organic bakery training firm Bread Matters, who will look at bringing people together to encourage and participate in research resulting in more locally-grown better bread-making wheat.

Guests will also be given an introduction to the School, which hosts a full-time bakery diploma, as well as The Welbeck Bakehouse.

The free event is open to anyone and further details can be found at www.sustainweb.org/realbread/gathering_january_2013.
