Crantock’s Bakery has donated more than 1,800 pasties and turnovers to a charity in Cornwall after missing a delivery to one of its food retailers.
The Newquay-based bakery, which has been making Cornish pasties, pork pies and sausage rolls since 1981, dispatched the large order of savoury baked goods to Camborne foodbank, which supports around 30 local families. The order was originally intended for one of Crantock’s retail customers but was delivered too late to be used.
Catherine Webster, marketing manager at Crantock’s Bakery, said: “The foodbank was delighted to receive the products and I am sure that Crantock’s will continue to support this charity, along with many others in the future. They were able to take and store the fairly high volume of frozen baked pasties and turnovers in one go.”
The donation made by Crantock’s Bakery included traditional Cornish pasties, cheese & onion pasties, full English breakfast pasties and bacon & cheese turnovers.
Webster added: “We do support a lot of local charities and schools by donating products, which in turn allows them to help raise tens of thousands of pounds a year for their causes. Doing so generates a lot of goodwill, both within the local community and with the staff here at the bakery. Sometimes it might just be a box of pasties or sausage rolls, but on other occasions it has been a couple of hundred products.”
Crantock’s Bakery, which employs more than 150 members of staff, supplies its baked products to some of the UK’s leading retailers, caterers, transport companies and village shops.
