The 23rd Great Yorkshire Pork Pie, Sausage & Products Competition is now open for entries from bakers across the county.

The competition, which takes place on Sunday 4 November, at Bradford’s Cedar Court Hotel, has only ever seen butchers enter before, but is hoping to attract bakers to participate.

Organiser of the event, the Confederation of Yorkshire Butchers Councils, said it was hoping some of the county’s bakers will take up the gauntlet this year.

Andrew Green, of Wilsons Butchers, and president of the Confederation, said: “Leading performers, notably major title winners, report major boosts to their trade.”

This year will also feature a ‘New Kid on the Block’ class for the best newcomer, in a bid to encourage new blood to enter and gain valuable experience in the competition arena.

All 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-placed class winners will receive individual trophies and Yorkshire Rose Award diplomas, with diplomas also presented to each finalist.
