Restaurant-bakery Arôme & Singapulah set to open

A new restaurant-bakery concept is to open on Frith Street in London’s Soho next month.

The bakery aspect – Arôme – will operate a retail area with 12 covers during the day, being repurposed in the evening to create the 50-cover Singapulah restaurant.

It will serve a selection of breads, as well as sweet and savoury pastries, including the Gulu Melaka Coconut Bun, Laksa Tomato Coriander Roll and Calamansi Lime Tart.

The signature dish will be the Arôme Milk Bread Toast (pictured right) – a caramelised milk loaf similar to both French toast and candied bread.

The menu has been created by head chef Alix Andre, a French baker and maître pâtissier, who was classically trained at Ladurée and later at the Dorchester. This will be his first standalone showcase of creations that combine his passion for traditional patisserie techniques with his interest in Asian flavours.

The concept is the latest venture from restaurateur Ellen Chew, founder of Chinatown’s Rasa Sayang, Lobos Tapas in London Bridge and Soho, and, most recently, Bicester Village’s Shan Shui restaurant and Simply Noodles kiosk.
