Georgi Gyton visits an unusual food-inspired event
Foodies gathered at The Brickhouse, in Brick Lane, London on Saturday 25 September, for an exhibition of edible art, live talks, and demonstrations, organised by the Experimental Food Society.
Among the exhibits was a life-size suckling pig cake by cake artist Michelle Wibowo; a cake pop tower by POP Bakery; a jelly bean image of TV presenter Paul O’Grady by Malcolm West; and a gorilla made of cake by Love to Cake. Louise Hill, cake sculptor of Love to Cake was also sculpting a cake sea turtle live on the day.
Lily Vanilli, author of A Zombie Ate My Cupcake, had created an edible lobster and bleeding heart. The lobster was made from rum and chocolate cake with a rum and pistachio meringue, while the heart was made from cocoa red velvet with strawberry cream cheese and raspberry.
Visitors also had the opportunity to have their hands cast in dough by artist Sharon Baker.
