An extra week has been granted to bakers to submit their finest creations for Britain’s Best Loaf 2024 as well as the brand-new Britain’s Best Cake competition.

The entry deadline for both has been pushed back to Monday 25 March allowing even more bakery businesses to get involved in the competitions, join the contests, which will take place at the NEC Birmingham at the end of next month.

On Monday 29 April, expert judges including an Asda buyer, Booths product developer, and head of bakery for Cardiff Metropolitan University, will be scrutinising slices of the showcased cakes on display before announcing winners across six different categories. The overall champion will then be decided from these winners, taking home the inaugural title of Britain’s Best Cake.

The following day (Tuesday 30 April), another esteemed panel of judges featuring a technical baker at Bako, a 57-year veteran of the baking industry, and a four-time former winner, will be closely inspecting, prodding, sniffing, and tasting all the entered breads. After arriving at the top choices from each of eight categories, including the newly introduced Seeded Sourdough, they will go on to crown the ultimate winner as Britain’s Best Loaf 2024.
