Afternoon Tea Week is taking place from 10 to 16 August 2026 and to celebrate British Baker will be exploring the latest developments on the afternoon tea scene.
Given our remit, we will be focusing on the bakery elements of the afternoon tea (scones, sandwiches, pastries, desserts etc) rather than the beverage selection.
Key questions this feature will explore:
- What are the top trends in afternoon tea for 2026 and beyond? What’s driving these?
- What are the key themes in terms of flavours, formats, or interactive elements?
- How are staples, such as scones or sandwiches, evolving?
- How is the balance between sweet and savoury menu items changing, if at all?
- How does this differ between different establishments, such as bakeries or five-star hotels?
- How has demand for afternoon tea changed over the past 12-18 months?
- How has the increased cost of living impacted the afternoon tea market? Are consumers trading up or down, or opting out altogether?
- How are GLP-1s and changing consumer attitudes to health impacting afternoon tea?
- What interesting or unusual afternoon teas are available in the market?
