Cornish Bakery has unveiled four locations for new shops this year after opening its 65th outlet in Nottingham.

The independent bakery chain is in the midst of a retail expansion programme, having secured a funding package from Virgin Money in June. Its rapidly growing estate helped it record its best-ever summer season, with total sales exceeding £1m per week.

Taunton, Winchester, Chelmsford, and Milton Keynes are the confirmed locations of the next four Cornish Bakery shops, which are currently in development and set to be opened by the end of 2024.

The company also noted that further new sites were going through legals and would be unveiled in the near future, as it chased ambitions to double or triple its number of stores.

Additionally, several of Cornish Bakery’s existing locations were slated for full refurbishments under its bespoke-to-each-location branding.

The brand claimed it was fully embracing the heritage of its new 1,900 sq ft property in Nottingham, which is located on Bridlesmith Gate near the city’s historic Old Market Square.

The existing exterior has been retained while internal fixtures have been stripped back to expose the original brick wall facade and timber flooring, with unique artworks commissioned from Cornish creatives flanking the walls.

“Nottingham has been incredible,” commented managing director Mat Finch, who was appointed after a six-month-long hunt. “We have been considering the city for some time now and trading in the first few weeks has far exceeded our expectations with over 5,000 eager customers, NPS scores of 71% and a lot of love for our NPD including our Pistachio Croissant and our Salted Caramel Roll.”

The MD noted that the company took careful and deep consideration to decide optimal locations for its dedicated growth strategy. “Throughout the rest of 2024 we’ll be bringing our unique experience, our top-flight customer service, B-Corp Union coffee, new product ranges and our local charity partnerships, to new places and spaces all over the country,” he said.

With its new openings this year, Cornish Bakery looks set to improve on it 23rd placing in the list of Top 75 out-of-home bakery businesses as compiled in the Bakery Market Report 2024.

Last year, Cornish Bakery was recognised as among the top UK companies to work for, along with Gail’s Bakery which in April announced plans to open 35 new sites across the UK in 2024
