Two Magpies Bakery has continued its expansion in East Anglia with the purchase of a farm shop and café in Marlesford, Suffolk.
With 10 bakery sites across Suffolk and Norfolk, the group has now acquired the lease and assets of the Marlesford business for an undisclosed sum.

“This is a huge achievement for the Two Magpies Bakery Group, which will see a 10-15% increase in our turnover and a step towards our goal of 50 sites,” said Two Magpies owner and CEO Steve Magnall.
The popular countryside venue, stylised as Farm Café + Shop and located along the A12 near Woodbridge, has seating for 80 customers inside and 50 more outside. The café offers breakfasts and lunches comprised of locally sourced ingredients as well as signature homemade scones, while the farm shop sells local produce and artisan goods.
From 23 March, it is to be rebranded as Two Magpies Bakery with all 21 existing staff members joining the company’s payroll. The fixtures and fittings will remain too, although there are plans to make some transformations to the site in keeping with other Two Magpies locations. These include bakery cafés in Norwich, Blakeney, Holt, Woodbridge, Wells-next-the-Sea, Beccles, Aldeburgh, Framlingham, Southwold, and Darsham.
The site in Darsham also houses a bake school as well as now being used to manufacture the Hilton Macarons range – the brand it acquired in October 2024. The Two Magpies range supplied to its shop estate is produced at an 11,000 sq ft bakery in Walpole, which it moved into in 2023.
Magnall called the farm shop and café purchase a “great start to the year” and something that helped cement the company’s expansion plans. “We are thrilled to have secured such a fantastically positioned site that has great potential. We look forward to welcoming the staff from Marlesford into the Two Magpies’ team as we develop the site and the customer experience further,” he added.
Two Magpies recently welcomed Steve’s son Ben Magnall to the board of directors. At the same time, it also announced a shake-up of its leadership team including the hiring of a new manufacturing manager, head of quality & training, head baker, and head of production.
