Fedima, the Federation of European Bakery Ingredients Manufacturers, has opened applications for its sustainability grant designed to support a local initiative which contributes to the sustainable development and innovation in the bakery and patisserie sector.
The grant is open to small businesses, bakeries, craft bakers, and research institutes based in Europe (EU plus EFTA, the UK, and Turkey) with a turnover of less than €10m that are actively engaged in the bakery, patisserie, or the confectionery food chain.
Applicants, who must not be members of Fedima, are encouraged to submit projects that contribute to sustainable development in areas such as (but not limited to) the circular economy, waste reduction, sustainable packaging, responsible sourcing, energy efficiency, and nutrition.
The applications, which can be submitted via the Fedima website, will be judged against three criteria:
- Innovation: Does the initiative introduce novel solutions that promote the sustainable development of the bakery and patisserie sector? Does it showcase originality and ingenuity in areas such as production techniques, product innovation, or process improvements?
- Community Impact: How does the initiative create meaningful benefits for the community? Does it promote engagement, generate positive social and environmental outcomes, or address specific needs at the community level?
- Industry Impact: Does the project contribute to the long-term growth and sustainability of the bakery sector? Does it set an example for economic viability and encourage wider adoption within the industry?
The selected initiative will receive funding of €20,000 (£16,700) to implement its plans.
“By providing financial support to local projects that drive environmental, social, and economic sustainability, Fedima and its members aim to foster long-term positive change within the industry and the communities it serves,” the federation said.
