Melton Mowbray pork pie purveyors Dickinson & Morris have once again teamed up with ‘The Pie King’, pastry chef Calum Franklin, to launch the King’s Coronation Pie.

Said to take its inspiration from the King’s love of British game, the recipe includes outdoor-bred British pork with pheasant, chestnut, and madeira jelly, with intricate, royal-themed pastry detailing.

“As a pastry chef with a passion for creating spectacular, great-tasting pies, working with a brand that shares these values and creates products using traditional hand-crafted methods is always a joy,” commented Franklin.

Priced from £25, the 860g pie serves eight people and will be available for pre-order online from 3 April.

Dickinson & Morris has been baking Melton Mobray Pork Pies for over 170 years. Both King Charles III and the late Queen Elizabeth II have paid visits to the brand’s Ye Olde Pie Shoppe in Leicestershire.

Holland’s Pies has created a Coronation Pie, which it has dubbed the ‘crown jewel of pastry creations’.

The company said its recipe is inspired by the original Jubilee Chicken dish, created for King George V’s Silver Jubilee in 1935, and the traditional coronation chicken recipe, invented for Queen Elizabeth II’s crowning in 1953.

Alongside chicken, apricots, raisins, and a blend of herbs and spices, Holland’s Coronation Pie also includes dried prunes – a nod to King Charles III’s favourite fruit, plums. All the flavours are brought together in a unique Korma-style curry sauce. The Coronation Pie serves four.
