Tesco has enhanced its meal deal offering with five limited-edition sandwiches and wraps inspired by popular British takeaway dishes.
In promoting the launch of the new items on its socials, the retailer asked: “Is lunchtime the new Friday night takeaway?”.
First up is an invitation to “bite in a Chicken Shop classic”. The Burger Style Southern Fried Chicken sandwich features chicken breast in a Southern-style coating with spicy onion mayo, Emmental medium fat hard cheese, lettuce, and gherkins in brioche-style white bread.
Another late-night favourite is the kebab, with Tesco trading pitta bread for tortilla in its new Chicken Doner Kebab wrap. The filling comprises chicken breast and a doner-spiced mayonnaise along with chilli sauce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and lettuce.
A kebab meat filling recently proved successful in the pie format, with Boghall Butchers of Bathgate in Scotland triumphing at the British Pie Awards 2025 with its spicy Kebab Pie. Other kebab pies have been created by Pie Sports for Aldi Scotland last year, and Pukka pies in 2023.
Moving to Indian takeaways now, and Tesco’s Tandoori Chicken & Onion Bhaji sandwich with a yogurt dressing. This is made with tikka-spiced chicken, onion bhajis, and pickled red onions, paired with a zesty lime pickle on white bread.
For those that like sampling multiple dishes, the Indian Style Half & Half wraps have one tortilla filled with chicken tikka and the other packed with saag aloo – ie. potatoes and spinach in a Bombay style sauce.
Lastly, consumers can opt for a Chinese with the Salt & Pepper Chicken wrap. This contains seasoned chicken breast in a salt and pepper sauce, with a vibrant medley of roasted peppers, onions, and spinach leaves, all wrapped in tortilla.
The new sandwiches and wraps can be purchased individually (rsp: £3 each) or as the main option in the retailer’s £4 meal deal (£3.60 with a Clubcard), which includes a snack and a drink. They are available until 18 May 2025 at Tesco stores and online, excluding its Whoosh same-day home delivery service.
At the start of the year, Tesco published its most recent year in review, entitled Clubcard Unpacked. It revealed that the most popular main for meal deals during 2024 was the Chicken Club Sandwich, replacing the Sausage Bacon & Egg Triple sandwich which had been top choice for the previous two years.
