Social entrepreneur Rosie Ginday has unveiled the UK’s first French macaron shop and prosecco bar Miss Macaroon in Great Western Arcade, Birmingham.

The Miss Macaroon brand, which has only operated online so far, has proven to be a popular with consumers, who can now delve into 30 different types of macarons while enjoying a glass of prosecco.

“We have been working towards this moment for some time, so I’m genuinely proud that we have been able to bring the first Miss Macaroon store to the people of Birmingham… my home city,” explained Ginday.

“The unit we have in the Great Western Arcade is absolutely perfect as it’s turning into a bit of a destination venue for independent food and drink businesses. Hopefully, we’re going to bring something new to the scene and the initial response has been fantastic.”

New varieties of macarons, including dark chocolate, cherry and matcha green tea, will join traditional favourites, with the added option of offering a world-first ‘personalised’ option, said the company. Customers can have logos, words or even their face printed on their macarons.

Four new staff have been taken on to run the shop and profits generated will go towards expanding the organisation’s ‘Macarons Make a Difference’ (MacsMAD) course, which helps the long-term unemployed and ex-offenders gain vital training and employability skills.

The next destination for a Miss Macaroon shop is thought to be in Leeds, with the promise of 100 more stores to open by 2021.

Ginday added: “While Birmingham will be our first outlet, there are ambitious plans to open multiple venues across the UK. Leeds will hopefully be our next destination and we have an ambitious business plan that will see us, hopefully, hit 100 Miss Macaroon shops by 2021.”
