Sainsbury’s is embracing seasonal fruit and veg for its summer range 2023.
Cherries, lemons, and apricots are among the fruits making an appearance in the retailer’s new desserts. On the savoury side, it has added two new flavoursome sandwiches as well as a mushroom & thyme tart and spiced flatbread.
Here are some of the highlights from the retailer’s range:
Chorizo, Nduja & Mozzarella Sandwich
All the tapas flavours you love, on the go. That’s how Sainsbury’s is describing this lunchtime offering which sees smoky chorizo, mozzarella and spicy Nduja paired with peppery rocket and garlic aioli all sandwiched between two slices of tomato bread.

Apricot & Mascarpone Cake
This soft sponge cake offers what Sainsbury’s describes as ‘a perfect balance’ of zingy apricot with mascarpone cream. The sponge is sandwiched with apricot jam and topped with an apricot drizzle and sprinkling of white chocolate curls.

Portobello, Mushroom, Mascarpone & Thyme Tart
This tart features butter enriched puff pastry filled with Portobello mushrooms, mascarpone, and thyme, all topped off with extra mature Cheddar cheese. It can be served hot or cold.

Roasted Veg, Mozzarella & Pesto Sandwich
This vegetarian offering sees two slices of onion bread packed with slow-roasted tomatoes and peppers, creamy mozzarella and caramelised onions along with tangy tomato relish, basil pesto and peppery rocket.

Morello Cherry & Yoghurt Tart
This all-butter pastry tart perfectly captures the taste of summer, according to Sainsbury’s. It’s filled with a cherry compote and golden sponge made with Greek-style yoghurt and hand finished with a topping of juicy Morello cherries.

Harissa Flatbread
Sainsbury’s has added some smoky harissa spice to its fluffy, flame-baked flatbreads this year. Part of the Taste the Difference range, they are described as ideal for an evening of al fresco dining, best served with dips, chicken, or halloumi.

Lemon Illusion Desserts
Is it dessert or is it a lemon? Sainsbury’s is tapping into the illusion trend with its aptly named Lemon Illusion Desserts. The tangy desserts combine Sicilian lemon and Belgian white chocolate mousse with a hidden centre of zesty lemon curd. To round off the illusion, they’re coated in crackable lemon-shaped white chocolate shells.

Macarons
