London hotel Claridge’s is to open a bakery in late summer 2025 with internationally acclaimed chef and baker Richard Hart heading up the operation.
Hart has been named as executive baker & creative director for Claridge’s Bakery which will be located on Brook’s Mews, Mayfair with the sole aim of ‘celebrating the art of British baking’.
The menu will be created by Hart and take inspiration from his London upbringing as well as his love and nostalgia for classic British bakeries, as well as Claridge’s own heritage.
As such, it will launch with a British-focused menu of beloved classics including bloomers and granary loaves, as well as jam tarts and custard tarts, Belgian buns and iced fingers, and more, as well as Hart’s globally renowned sourdough loaves. The bakery will sell baked goods straight from the ovens for hotel guests as well as London locals and visitors to enjoy.
The opening of Claridge’s Bakery marks Hart’s return to the UK and builds on decades of travels and work across the globe, from San Francisco to Copenhagen and Mexico City. He is the founder of Copenhagen’s Hart Bageri and has previously been head baker of San Francisco’s Tartine.
Hart said he was “excited and honoured” to step into the role. “My goal is to celebrate timeless British baked favourites in one of the most notable British institutions. Bread and baked goods are an everyday staple that brings people together and I can’t wait to share my take on it with Londoners and visitors to the capital,” he added.
Located at the centre of London’s Mayfair, the bakery will join Claridge’s roster of food and drink establishments, including the ArtSpace Café which serves up coffee and crepes to The Foyer where guests can enjoy the hotel’s iconic afternoon tea.
Simon Attridge, culinary director at Claridge’s, added: “The team look forward to opening Claridge’s Bakery and to be working with Richard Hart, a highly acclaimed, prestigious name in the world of food. Introducing a brand-new space in the hotel that offers things to take home, as well as providing baked goods for the whole hotel, is a significant moment for Claridge’s”.
