AB Mauri has developed a range of bread mixes offering health and nutritional benefits.
The new range, called Pure ProGrains, is aimed at helping craft and medium-sized bakeries tap the consumer trend for healthier food products and increased awareness of gut health. Each mix allows on-pack claims for fibre, protein and digestive health.
The ingredients in the mixes have been selected so that bakers just add flour, yeast and water before mixing, processing and baking. They are flexible and versatile, said AB Mauri, enabling bakers to create several different types of bread and rolls from the same mix.
AB Mauri UK & Ireland nutrition and insights manager Vicky McColl explained that, as part of its commitment to FDF’s Action on Fibre initiative, the business was working with technology and research partners to help overcome the challenges in developing higher fibre foods.
Under the Action on Fibre initiative, food businesses including AB Mauri have pledged to help consumers have the recommended 30g of fibre daily. Average consumption is 19.7g, with only 9% of adults meeting the recommended amount.
“We believe we have a significant role to play within the UK baking industry to support our customers with bringing new technologies to market which can be used to formulate healthy and nutritious foods for consumers,” added McColl.
AB Mauri explained that many of its customers may not have the time or resources to innovate against current trends, and that it used global insights and its development expertise to create products such as Pure ProGrains.
“Meeting product characteristics such as great taste, texture and appearance whilst also fulfilling ‘hot’ consumer trends are key drivers for consumers buying behaviour,” said AB Mauri sales and marketing director Andrew Dinsdale.
“The development team have worked hard to innovate and create a modern range of healthy bread mixes that offer bakers with an attractive value proposition.”
