Scottish bakery business McGhee’s Family Bakers has taken delivery of a dozen new vehicles.
Supplied by Man Truck & Bus, the new Man TGE vehicles feature bespoke box bodies that been tailor-built to carry confectionery and bakery trays.
They will be used by McGhee’s to deliver to supermarkets and multiple retailers including Asda, Tesco, Scotmid and Spar, as well as independent retailers across Scotland. The business bakes more than 100 products daily including crispy rolls, potato scones, pancakes, crumpets, empire biscuits, doughnuts and yum-yums, and supplies a range of fresh and frozen goods to foodservice, retail and wholesale.
“As we bake our produce fresh daily, both overnight and into the early hours, we needed to work with a vehicle manufacturer whose vans were reliable, robust and trustworthy,” said McGhee’s sales director Stuart McGhee, adding that McGhee’s had heard positive comments from other Man TGE users.
McGhee’s new TGEs are based on a 4,490mm wheelbase chassis cab, have rear-wheel drive, six-speed manual transmissions and are powered by four-cylinder, 160 bhp, 2.0 litre, low-consumption diesel engines.
The cabs have ergonomically designed seats, practical storage, cup holders, USB ports and infotainment systems, while safety features include emergency brake assist, ABS, crosswind assist and hill-assent assist. Forward and rear-facing cameras have been fitted across the fleet.
“To ensure our drivers have a safe and relaxed working environment the vehicles we operate must be secure and comfortable,” added McGhee’s. “The cabs are well laid out offering a car-like driving experience, quiet and present a relaxing drive.”
Founded in 1936 in Maryhill Glasgow, McGhee’s Bakers now operates from a purpose-built site in Port Dundas, as well as bakeries in Kilmarnock and Motherwell and depots in Dundee and Edinburgh. The family business is led by third-generation McGhee’s Gordon, Ian and Stuart, alongside the fourth generation of Aisling, Russell and Grant.
