Bakkavör, the fresh prepared food manufacturer, has hosted a cooking masterclass for young people from the Prince’s Trust to teach them how to bake cakes.
Six youngsters attended the class from the Kennington Prince’s Trust Centre at Bakkavör’s headquarters.
The class was led by Bakkavör’s head development chef, Jason Elvin, who taught the teenagers everything from how to crack an egg easily, to tempering chocolate and making a chocolate ganache with the perfect shine.
As part of the class, Jason had each class member to take ownership for baking a letter and, at the end, each creation was put together to spell out ‘Bakkavör 30’, to show them what can be achieved by working as a team.
Elvin commented: “Cooking is a great way to be creative, hone and learn new skills and, by working as a team, you can create something magical before your very eyes. We had a great day and we are delighted to give more young people a taste of a career in food development.”
The ‘how to bake a perfect cake’ masterclass was in aid of the company’s 30th birthday. There are plans between Bakkavör and the Prince’s Trust to host further sessions over the coming months.
In June, Bakkavör had plans to create 470 new roles in its deli and desserts businesses.
