Scottish baker Reids of Caithness has won two awards at this year’s Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards.

The third generation bakery in the Scottish Highlands, which has been producing biscuits and cakes for more than 40 years, scooped the New Product Award achieving Great Taste Gold Star Awards for six of its range of shortbreads and oat biscuits.

This included its Caithness Butter Shortbread, Treacle and Toffee Biscuits, Oat and Honey Biscuits, Caithness Groaties, Stem Ginger Oaties and Banoffee Oaties.

The Thurso-based bakery, run by brothers Graeme and Gary Reid who are sons of founder Donald, also won the Distance No Object Award. This recognises those developing their customer base to grow a sustainable business.

The awards took place in Inverness on 21 October recognising the best use of local food and drink, good environmental practice, innovation and new products.
