The Europain exhibition, which took place on 6-10 March in Paris, has not issued a final figure for visitors. However, while very busy, the organisers state that, with industry turnover down 30% in France in 2009, it was not surprising French visitors declined by 11% and international by 15% .

The actual breakdown of visitors was 65% French and 35% international with most of the latter coming from Belgium, Spain and Italy.

In competitions, an international team of judges awarded the Master Bakers Bread cup to Pao-Chun Wu from Taiwan, The Viennoiserie Cup to Thomas Planchot from France and the Artistic Piece to Francois Brandt from the Netherlands. In the International Confectionery Cup the winners, Rie Tannimichi and Kenji Katsuma from Japan, beat runners-up from France and the Ukraine.

Stephen Beague, from group marketing for the Lesaffre Group, praised the quality of visitors and said it was particularly good to see more exhibitors than at the last show.
