Vegan slices, Wall’s

Wall’s is expanding its vegan range with two savoury slices – a Vegan Peppered Steak Slice and Vegan Chicken & Mushroom Slice – which are available nationwide in Tesco from May 2025.

The plant-based recipes are inspired by classic savoury pastry favourites, as Wall’s promises the ‘same incredible taste and texture of their meat counterparts’.

The Vegan Peppered Steak Slice is filled with plant-based steak pieces and onion in a pepper sauce, encased in Wall’s flaky pastry. The Vegan Chicken & Mushroom Slice, meanwhile, features plant-based chicken pieces with mushroom in a creamy vegan sauce. The slices can be enjoyed hot or cold and have a rsp of £2.

These additions build on the success of Wall’s Vegan Sausage Roll which was relaunched in 2023 after a year-long research project to enhance the appearance, filling, texture, and flavour.

“We’ve seen brilliant momentum behind our Vegan Sausage Roll, and it’s clear there’s a real appetite for high-quality plant-based versions of familiar favourites,” said Jason Manley, brand director at The Compleat Food Group, home of Wall’s. “With these slices, we spotted the perfect opportunity to leverage our brand strength within plant-based chilled savoury pastry and developed a range that is truly tasty and representative of its meat counterparts.”

Cheeseburger Pie, Pukka

Pukka is taking fusion to a new level by combining a cheeseburger and pie in one mouthful.

The aptly named Cheeseburger Pie is packed with juicy mini beef burgers with melted cheese, rich tomato sauce, creamy burger sauce, diced onions and gherkins, all wrapped in Pukka’s signature 144 layers of golden puff pastry.

The pie specialist said the innovation offers a twist on two of the nation’s comfort foods and looks to reinforce the brand’s reputation as a ‘trendsetter’. It also taps into the demand for hybrid creations, driven by social media which has resulted in cheeseburger tacos and salads trending online.

It builds on Pukka’s track record of limited-edition innovation which has added £1.4m to the category over the past year [Circana data to 16 February 2025]. Pukka noted that 64% of spend is coming from new shoppers, particularly 18–44-year-olds, the Cheeseburger Pie presents retailers with a fresh opportunity to drive incremental sales.

Other recent innovation from the Leicestershire-based firm includes an All Day Breakfast Pie, a Sausage Casserole Pie, Margherita Pizza Slice, and trio of world flavour parcels.

Chana Rama Pie, Pieminister

Pieminister has added a new vegan option to its wholesale range – the award-winning Chana Rama Pie. It is packed with Bold Bean Co’s Queen chickpeas, sweet potato, cauliflower, spinach, and warming spices, the plant-based pie is also said to be one of the lowest-carbon pies the independent company has ever created.

Recognised as ‘Best in Class’ at the British Pie Awards 2025, the Chana Rama is ideal for foodservice operators looking to meet growing demand for high-quality, sustainable vegan options – whether you’re running a café, pub, farm shop, or stadium kiosk, Pieminister stated.

“Expanding our vegan range is key to our mission of becoming as sustainable and ethical as possible,” said Jon Simon, Pieminister co-founder and MD. “We don’t assume ‘plant-based’ equals low impact, so we conduct our own rigorous supply chain audits. That means working with like-minded partners like Bold Bean Co, who meet our high welfare standards and guarantee their ingredients are deforestation-free.”

There’s an increasing demand for hospitality firms to cater to a broad range of dietary requirements – something Pieminister has tapped into with its other recent launches. These include:

  • Big Cheese – a vintage Cheddar, potato & leek pie with Emmental and cider
  • GF Big Cheese – a certified gluten-free version of the classic Big Cheese pie
  • Goat’s Cheese & Sweet Potato – a goat’s cheese, sweet potato, red onion & spinach filo pie.

The pies are available to foodservice operators nationwide with a minimum order of £100.
