Pret A Manger has unveiled its spring menu, which includes its first vegan cookie and a range of baguettes.

The Dark Chocolate & Almond Butter vegan cookie, priced at £1.45, is Pret’s first vegan bakery item, adding to its selection of dairy- and egg-free sweet treats.

“I’m especially excited about the vegan cookie, which combines almond butter with dark chocolate and sea salt to make the perfect afternoon treat,” said Hannah Dolan, head of food development at the food-to-go specialist.

Pret has also bolstered its range of baguettes by making the Smoked Salmon, Soft Cheese & Dill as well as the vegan Avocado, Olives & Tomatoes Chef’s Specials a permanent fixture on the menu.

It’s also trialling two new Chef’s Specials, one vegan and one meaty, which are available from 1May to 2 July.

The Beef & Chimichurri Baguette, meanwhile, costs £4.25 and is based on a traditional Argentinian recipe. It features roast Irish beef, tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, chilli peppers, parsley and oregano.

The Vegan Chilli Flat Bread, priced at £3.99, comprises a spicy vegan chilli with avocado, charred corn and black bean salsa, alongside pickled onions, red peppers and salad leaves.

Other items on the spring menu include a vegetarian Buffalo Mozzarella & Pesto salad (£5.50), Sesame Salmon & Black Rice (£6.50) and a Chicken, Prosciutto & Avocado salad (£6.50). A vegan Mango & Banana Sunshine Bowl (£2.99) made with mangoes, banana, coconut milk, granola, turmeric, coconut chips and blueberries has also been added.

In recent years, Pret has increasingly catered to different dietary requirements and the rise of flexitarianism – notably, its 2017 Christmas range included the retailer’s first ever festive vegan sandwich. It has also opened three Veggie Pret shops in London, which only sell items suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets, the third of which opened in September.
