Ichibuns launches QR code burger bun

Japanese diner Ichibuns has launched a scannable burger bun featuring a QR code enabling customers to make payments, leave tips and split the bill.

Located in London’s Chinatown, Ichibuns is a Japanese-inspired business specialising in fast casual food. It has launched the bun in partnership with mobile payment service Zapper.

To make use of the new technology, visitors to the diner can order any of the signature burgers and scan the QR code branded on the top of the bun. First-time users of the Zapper app can claim £7 off per person per bill, and 50% off on return visits.

The no-reservations restaurant will also be launching its Ichipachinko app, which will offer a digital version of Japan’s pinball-esque pastime. Guests can exchange their points for Zapper vouchers for a selection of items from the menu.

“Our goal with Ichibuns was to be a restaurant experience like no other, and our partnership with Zapper is a great way to achieve this, allowing us to be at the forefront of hospitality innovation by offering much more than just a payment service,” said Benjamin Goldkorn, CEO of Ichibuns.

“Combining it with our own app also allows us to give something back to our customers, with discounts and prizes available to win.”
