Bakers and cupcake lovers across the country have kicked off celebrations for National Cupcake Week 2018, which runs from 17-23 September.

Started by British Baker nine years ago, the week-long celebration sees bakers sharing their creations on social media using the hashtag #NationalCupcakeWeek.

Often confused with fairy cakes, there are a number of key differences between the two, including the size and toppings used.

Among the treats made for the 2017 celebration were Irn Bru-flavoured cupcakes from Dreambakes in Doncaster, edible cupcake bouquets served up by Blush Cupcakes in Perth and vegan hot chocolate treats from Wallflower in Brighton.
