Sourdough bakery Mini Miss Bread is opening a store in Saffron Walden, Essex.

Following increased demand for its products, the business is to move from founder Megan Charnock’s home kitchen to a unit on Church Street, Saffron Walden, which is due to open to the public in spring.

Mini Miss Bread was founded in 2017 by Charnock, who has baked sourdough bread from her home kitchen since then.

The new bakery will allow customers to purchase weekly-changing sourdough loaves from the heart of the town, meet and watch the baker in person, and sit down to enjoy a coffee and sourdough toast. Menu items this week include a white sourdough, seeded whole wheat & rye sourdough and a Walden weekend loaf.

Charnock is working with a number of local businesses on the project, including interior designer Kate Whitfield from An Artful Life Studio and Gareth McMahon from Big Barn Creative, which has designed the branding. Ceramicist Gabby Smith from Shop At Seed has also been commissioned to produce plates and cups that will be used at the bakery, and will also be available for customers to purchase and take home.

“It was important to me to support and collaborate with local creatives on the development of this project,” said Charnock.

“I feel so lucky to have been able to work with local talent such as Kate, Gareth and Gabby to make this a really special venture with lots of local influences.”
