Wholesale cake manufacturer The Handmade Cake Company has created its first-ever ambient range, which comprises a trio of individually-wrapped products.

The NPD, all of which are gluten-free, targets consumer needs for on-the-go snacks across different parts of the day, according to the company, which is part of Mademoiselle Desserts.

Available from this month, the new products are:

  • Gluten Free & Vegan Spiced Fruit Granola – Described as the perfect on-the-go breakfast, the delicately spiced bar is packed with oats, golden syrup, stem ginger, raisins, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, coconut, cranberries and apricots.
  • Gluten Free Salted Caramel Brownie – This brownie is scored with salted caramel which becomes even more caramelised when baked.
  • Gluten Free Caramel Praline Flapjack – A modern take on the classic recipe, the praline flapjack features caramel, hazelnuts and a drizzle of chocolate sauce.

They represent the company’s first ambient range after 30 years of producing frozen cakes and desserts for the foodservice industry. It also comes as The Handmade Cake Company refreshes its logo to “bring the brand up to date”.

Like all gluten-free products created by The Handmade Cake Company, the new cakes are baked in a fully segregated gluten-free bakery and are licensed by Coeliac UK. The Spiced Fruit Granola is also registered with the Vegan Society.

“We wanted to design a range of cakes that are free from but meet the expectations of standard and free-from consumers alike – products people love because they’re great, not just ‘good for a vegan cake’,” added category manager Anthony Saison.

“There is a clear need for a convenient, premium sweet snack that could be sold as part of a meal deal or on its own to be eaten on-the-go... Convenience is at the heart of our new range: they offer a small but reasonable, transportable portion of cake that is sealed in solid packaging.”

In October, the company expanded its vegan range with an Orange & Apricot Slice.
