Costa Coffee is extending its partnership with Sainsbury’s by revealing ambitions to open 30 more sites in the retailer’s locations by the summer.
The pair first struck a deal in early 2024 which saw the coffee chain invest more than £3m to open new cafes in 11 of Sainsbury’s stores throughout the year.
Following a successful launch, the partnership is extending its reach further with four new Costa Coffee locations already opened in Sainsbury’s sites in 2026 – Monks Cross in York, Springfield in Essex, and Thanet West Wood Cross and Pepper Hill in Kent – with 30 more on the horizon.
“We’re excited to continue expanding Costa Coffee’s presence across the UK, bringing more welcoming café spaces into Sainsbury’s supermarkets for shoppers to relax, unwind, and enjoy a great cup of coffee,” the coffee giant said in a statement. “Our collaboration with Sainsbury’s is all about making great coffee accessible to more people than ever before, and we’re excited to keep growing this journey together.”
The stores, according to Costa, are “designed to enhance the supermarket experience” by offering consumers a place to sit down.
“This growth underlines our commitment to reaching more communities and reinforces the strength of our long-standing collaboration with Sainsbury’s,” it added.
Costa already has more than 1,300 Costa Express machines in Sainsbury’s stores and petrol stations nationwide. These locations also include regular-sized Costa Express hot drinks as part of Sainsbury’s lunchtime meal deal.
Away from its supermarket locations, Costa has been undertaking a store refresh programme with millions of pounds of investment in updating sites across the UK. The latest revamped store to reopen is in Dunfermline which now features a contemporary design, new furniture, and an improved layout, offering a ‘more relaxed and welcoming environment for customers’. This represents one of up to 20 stores across Scotland being refurbished.
When it comes to new openings, like others in the market, the coffee specialist appears to be focusing on travel and drive-thru locations with a new site in Manchester Airport opened in December 2025, as well as several drive-thrus in Maidstone, Ashford, Dumfries, and Bishop Auckland in the final quarter of last year.
