Craft bakers based in and around Chesire are being invited to apply for listings at the upcoming Tatton Services.

The £65m development, made through a partnership between motorway services operator Westmorland Farmshop & Co and Tatton Estate, is current currently being built at the Bowden Interchange, which connects the M56 and A556. It is expected to open in Spring 2028, creating more than 400 jobs.

Westmorland has announced a commitment to work with at least 70 producers within 30 miles of Tatton Services, said to reflect its longstanding approach to local sourcing. Among the products it is looking to stock in its new farm shop are breads, cakes, and snacks alongside deli items such as meats, cheeses, fruit and vegetables.

Prospective suppliers are invited to attend a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event on 19 November at the nearby Groobarb’s Wild Farm in High Legh. Between 10am and 3pm, they can drop in to introduce their businesses and products, meet the buying team and explore opportunities ahead of opening.

“At Westmorland, our ethos is about celebrating the small and special, which we’ve been doing for over 50 years,” commented commercial director Dan Pearson. “We want the unique, the interesting and the joyful, products made with care by people who have a story to tell.”

Pearson called it a chance to build something rooted in the local surroundings, where Tatton Services customers can discover the area through what they eat, drink, and take home. The millions of motorists passing along the M56 also presented suppliers with the opportunity to reach a much wider audience, he noted, adding “We want to build lasting relationships, helping our producers grow as we grow”.

Westmorland is the family-owned business behind Tebay Services on the M6 in Cumbria, Gloucester Services on the M5 in Gloucestershire, and Cairn Lodge Services on the A74(M) in South Lanarkshire. Among the bakery brands it stocks at these sites are Lovingly Artisan, Ginger Bakers, Hobbs House Bakery, The Bertinet Bakery, Freedom Bakery, and More? The Artisan Bakery.

The company has on-site bakeries making the likes of fresh sandwiches, wraps, pastries, scones, cakes and traybakes for sit-in diners and on-the-go consumers. It also operates its own production kitchen at the Rheged Centre near Penrith, where a bakery team produces a bread range free from additives and preservatives supplied to the service stations.
