Great Portland Street store after refurbishment

Costa Coffee has revealed a new modernised store design at its Great Portland Street site in London, which it says helps deliver an elevated coffee experience for every kind of visit.

The chain is also set to roll out a new Tiramisu Cookie Sandwich as part of its latest menu additions for the summer season.

Costa’s redesigned store features a fresh, contemporary layout, and a bold new interior design that blends comfort, warmth and style, it noted. A new open plan counter puts baristas at the heart of the experience, offering customers a view of their handcrafted drinks being made with care.

For added convenience, sleek self-service digital kiosks – first debuted at its Tooley Street store just over a year ago – have been introduced to make ordering easier and faster for those on the go.

Inside Great Portland Street is a refined colour palette and soft, ambient lighting, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere. Artistic touches, including abstract artwork and wall installations inspired by coffee landscapes, also add to the inviting feel of the store, said Costa. Meanwhile, high stools, cosy booths, and lounge chairs cater to everything from quick visits to long, relaxed stays.

“This transformation reflects our ongoing investment in Central London and our ambition to create modern and inviting spaces, where enjoying a coffee becomes a meaningful part of the day,” commented Nick Ridley, property & store development director for UK&I at Costa Coffee. “Whether you’re grabbing a Flat White to-go or settling in for the afternoon, we’re proud to offer an experience that’s as premium as the coffee we serve.”

Other retail brands have also launched new shop designs for 2025. Subway is underway on a global rollout of its ‘Fresh Forward 2.0’ restaurant image, while Pret is trialling a family-friendly, dine-in format in Maidenhead and Broughty Ferry.

Tiramisu Cookie Sandwich

Meanwhile, Costa’s new Tiramisu Cookie is being introduced at stores nationwide this Thursday (3 July). Bearing a striking similarity to the Chocolate and Pistachio Cookie Sandwich unveiled in the spring, the new sweet treat features a rich dark chocolate cookie sandwich filled with creamy coffee frosting, finished with icing and cocoa powder.

It joins new Cheese Bites and High Protein Chicken Bites as newcomers to the summer menu, which was launched in May with a new gluten-free toastie and bubble tea iced biscuit. On the beverages side, the Spanish Latte is returning this month and now available over ice.

“From the smooth sweetness of the Spanish Latte to the Tiramisu Cookie Sandwich inspired by the classic Italian dessert, it’s all about helping our customers taste a little bit of Summer, one sip or bite at a time,” said Nishant Bhatia, Costa’s global food and beverage innovation director. “And for those in the mood to snack, our Barista Bites are a fun new food format for Costa Coffee – perfect for enjoying in-store or grabbing on-the-go as you make the most of those sunny days.”
