Discounter Lidl has revealed a new state-of-the-art bakery at a new store in Penicuik, Scotland.
The addition to the store is part of Lidl’s expansion plans across the UK, and the new bakery will enable shoppers to buy freshly baked pains au chocolat, goat’s cheese and pesto focaccia and all-butter croissants on a daily basis.
Lidl UK’s head of property for Scotland Gordon Rafferty commented: “We are very excited to introduce this new bakery to our Penicuik store, and look forward to serving our multi-award-winning bakery products to the local community.
He added: “As our strong sales growth continues we are constantly reinvesting into our existing store base, as well as building new stores.”
Over 6 million British shoppers are now flocking to Lidl each week, half a million more a week than in 2015. Recent Kantar Worldpanel results have outlined the discounter’s continued growth of 13.8% and market share high of 4.4%.
In July, bakery will be at the heart of a new Lidl of the Future supermarket, due to open in Oban, Scotland, in September.
