Pladis has relaunching its Better Biscuits platform, designed to empower independent convenience store owners with the insights, tools, and support to boost their sweet and savoury snack sales.

The manufacturer of snacking brands including McVitie’s, Jacob’s, and Carr’s – which has its global headquarters in Chiswick, west London – said the platform is now ‘better than ever’, describing it as a one-stop hub for expert advice, planograms, exclusive rewards, treat trials, and more.

“Creating the perfect range of biscuits and snacks instore can be challenging,” explained Paul Burns, head of impulse performance & planning at Pladis UK&I. “Our carefully designed planograms cater for all different store types with impartial advice that includes all the best-loved brands, not just ours.

“Simple, accessible and easy to replicate, our tailored blueprints help independent convenience owners to quickly finesse their snacking fixtures – and start cashing in on the benefits,” he added.

With 80% of sales coming from just 7% of products (Nielsen data to 29 December 2024), Pladis recommends that the snacking bestsellers should take up the lion’s share of shelf space at shops. However, room should be left for attention-grabbing NPD which is key to encouraging additional impulse purchases, the company noted.

Convenience retailers that subscribe to the Better Biscuits platform also get access to latest POS kits free of charge, every 30 days. “Our bespoke kits include professionally designed posters, shelf talkers and more, providing hassle-free tools to let shoppers know about the hottest new trends and offers in biscuits and snacks,” commented Burns.

Last month, Pladis-owned McVitie’s celebrated the 100th anniversary of its Chocolate Digestives, which currently sells more than 80m packs in the UK per year. It marked the milestone by opening an immersive concept store on Regent Street in London for three days, including three portraits of ‘True Original’ British icons on display made out of Milk, Gold, White, and Dark Digestives varieties.

Pladis recently appointed David Jones as its vice president for quality and food safety on an interim basis, following a series of new leadership announcements in the aftermath of Salman Amin stepping down from the role of global CEO. This included Mete Buyurgan becoming its new managing director for UK & Ireland, with David Murray promoted to global chief commercial officer.

Pladis operates six bakeries in the UK and has 21 more production sites spread across 10 other countries.
