Bakery ingredients supplier British Bakels has won the Great British Bounce Back – a competition run by the organisers of Foodex – which celebrates food and drink manufacturers that are recovering from the recession and investing for the future.
The judges were impressed with Bakels’ commitment to investment in cutting-edge technology and sustainable production.
The judges said: “British Bakels has invested for the future –despite tough market conditions. Its investment in processing and packaging equipment has positioned the business for growth as the economy improves. Its commitment to sustainable production – cutting primary energy use by 40% – also makes the business a worthy winner.”
British Bakels has invested £2.5m in its business in the past two years.
Most recently, it completed the development of a ‘state-of-the-art’ presentation bakery, which includes a mini bread plant, six varieties of oven, a range of processing equipment for bread and confectionery products, a state-of-the-art audio-visual system and a presentation suite.
