Biscuit manufacturer Fox’s Burton’s Companies (FBC) UK has added 19 moving double-deck trailers and two single-deck box vans to its delivery fleet.
The company owns a portfolio of sweet bakery snack brands that includes Jammie Dodgers, Maryland Cookies, and Party Rings, which feature in designs for the full-wrap livery of the vehicles.
Cheshire-based Tiger Trailers manufactured the new vehicles and described the project as a “fleet introduction debut that was four years in the baking”. The trailers are powered by Tiger’s own four-ram hydraulic lifting system and have been engineered in a wedge iteration to enable them a transport capacity of up to 52 UK pallets. This maximises utilisation efficiency and reduces both carbon dioxide emissions and fuel spend, noted Tiger.
“Everyone from across our business is excited to see these first Tiger trailers join our fleet,” commented Danny Hobkirk, FBC UK’s fleet transport operations manager. “They look stunning with some of the nation’s most-loved biscuit brands on them.”
Hobkirk noted that key account manager Thomas Stott and other colleagues at Tiger had visited FBC UK’s sites on many occasions throughout the project’s development, during which time it had utilised a number of double decks from Tiger Rentals. The biscuit maker operates seven production sites in Batley, Blackpool, Edinburgh, Kirkham, Livingston, Llantarnam, and Uttoxeter, with a head office in St Albans. It recently relaunched its Thomas Fudge’s brand with a new design and more indulgent recipe.
Safety for operatives and other road users was said to be at the forefront of the delivered specification for FBC UK’s new articulated trailers, which incorporate the Safe Parking systems from both Haldex and Maple. They also have a ground-level sliding coupling, upgraded tow-guard with an over-centre locking handle to protect against finger injuries, a wanderlead for remote deck operation, an Anchorlock to mitigate trailer runaways, and a wide range of additional lighting both externally and internally. A flashing warning lamp to warn cyclists of the trailers’ danger zones and to inform them when the vehicle is turning left has been fitted as well.
The new Tiger trailers are to operate out of FBC UK’s sites in Batley and Kirkham, delivering its biscuit ranges to retailers throughout the UK.
FBC UK is a subsidiary of Ferrero and was formed through the merger of Fox’s Biscuits and Burton’s Biscuits in 2022. A trio of biscuit NPD was launched by the company for Christmas including Fox’s Winter Spiced Cookies, Fox’s Viennese Double Chocolate Fingers, and festively rebranded Merryland White Chocolate Chip Mini.
Tiger Trailers has previously delivered fleet upgrades to bakery behemoths including Fine Lady Bakeries, Warburtons, and most recently Allied Bakeries.
