The Cake Shop Bakery, Suffolk has invested £90,000 in expanding the business and updating its image.
The money, a loan from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, has been used to launch an on-site café, invest in new baking equipment and refurbish the interior of the shop.
David Wright, co-owner, said: “Feedback from many of our regular customers suggested there was scope to open up an on-site café, so we also used some of the investment from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking to launch this and we’ve since recruited five new members of staff to support it. We also purchased new baking equipment, which has allowed us to significantly increase our productivity and output.”
Mark Aitchison, relationship manager at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “The Cake Shop Bakery is a true example of a classic British business that has capitalised on its heritage and traditions while still moving with the times and updating its offering in order to appeal to a broad and growing customer base.
Additionally, the business is preparing to launch a new bakery school later this year in the town’s former fire station.
Wright and his sister Lindsay were recently crowned the winners of the second series of ITV’s Britain’s Best Bakery.
Wright added that winning the competition was testament to the hard work of the team, with business increasing since the result was announced.
The Cake Shop Bakery was established in 1946 by Jonathan and Miriam Wright, and is now run by the third generation of the family.
