Own-label bakery supplier Fine Lady Bakeries has added eight moving double deck articulated trailers to its fleet to help improve delivery.
The new vehicles, manufactured by Tiger Trailers, feature a three-quarter-length moving deck rated to ten tonnes operated by a four-ram hydraulic system. This is said to offer enhanced robustness, reliability, and an increased load capacity.
Painted in Fine Lady Bakeries’s distinctive straw yellow livery, the trailers will be used to transport loaves, buns and other baked goods to supermarkets, wholesalers, and the sandwich industry.
Having originated in Banbury, Oxfordshire, Fine Lady Bakeries opened a second purpose-built bakery in Manchester in 2010. Its results posted for the full year up to 2 April 2022 showed a turnover of £138.3m, up from £120.1m the previous financial period, with an operating profit of £4.1m.
The business is part of the family-run Heygate Group, which spans farming, flour and feed milling and baking, and currently employs over 900 staff. Managing director Paul Heygate won the Outstanding Contribution to the Baking Industry at the Baking Industry Awards in 2019.
“For the ordering of our new trailer fleet additions, we sought to identify a manufacturer that would be able to deliver on time, in full, and meet our specific operational requirements,” said Fine Lady Bakeries’ logistics manager Adam Robson.
“It was clear from discussions with Tiger Trailers that they would be able to meet our timescales and custom requirements, and we were also encouraged by their complementary services and work in the community,” Robson added.
To reduce the potential for damage, recessed hinges have been incorporated into the rear frame of the new trailers, along with reinforced pillar lowers, and rubber cones fitted to each door and side panel.
Inside, load securing is provided by means of specifically designed nets retained by vertical e-tracks, with a full-width gate fitted at the neck area, and the lifting deck operated either by the bank of control buttons or by a wanderlead. Various lights, alarms, and visual warnings have also been installed to enhance operator safety.
Tiger Trailers technical sales manager Thomas Stott said it was a pleasure to welcome Fine Lady Bakeries on board as a new customer. “After our visits to their sites, followed by their visit to Tiger to sign off the 3D model that our design and engineering team produced, it’s fantastic to see this established bakery’s new double deck trailers in the flesh on the road,” Stott commented.
