A salted caramel & popcorn cake, an edible Highland cow, and ginger & marmalade loaf cake are among the medallists at Britain’s Best Cake 2026.
The competition – sponsored by Dawn Foods, Kluman & Balter, Rainbow Dust, Shuffle-Mix, and St. Ewe Free Range Eggs – was held on Monday 13 April at the NEC Birmingham as part of the UK Food & Drink Shows. Here, an esteemed panel of judges eyed, sliced, sniffed, and tasted more than 110 cakes to find the best the nation has to offer.
A Miso Caramel Hazelnut Brownie from East Anglia’s Two Magpies Bakery claimed the title, having fought off stiff competition from fellow category winners including a mango & passionfruit cake, a chocolate ganache cake, and pistachio & cherry cake.
Having been introduced last year, Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals were once again awarded to the sweet treats that impressed the judges this time around.

“The level of innovation, attention to detail, and skill on display at Britain’s Best Cake 2026 was mind-blowing,” said British Baker editor Amy North. “We celebrated our category winners earlier this week, and now I am thrilled to recognise even more cake creators for their efforts in making Britain a little bit sweeter.
“I also want to highlight the incredible level of creativity that can be seen across the medallists. There’s innovative flavours such as hojicha, miso, and basil, a diversification of grains with spelt popping up in a few cakes, and new twists on classics as bakers look to surprise and delight customers up and down the country.”
