Handmade cake supplier Clam’s Cakes has predicted a turnover of £1m this year, after expanding into larger premises in Ebbw Vale, Wales.
The new bakery was supported by Blaenau Gwent Council, and has allowed the business to double in capacity and create more jobs.
Economy Minister Edwina Hart opened the new bakery. She said: “It’s good news to hear that Clam’s Cakes is continuing to expand and win new orders. I am also pleased to hear how the business is benefiting from exhibiting with the Welsh Government at a number of trade exhibitions and that this is proving to be a great platform to promote their products to new customers.”
The move to the Ebbw Vale bakery is the fourth relocation for the business, which has continued to expand. The cake business has seen year-on-year sales increase over the past three years, and owner Jane Phillips is confident the company will reach the £1m turnover mark.
Phillips said: “We want to remain in the niche market where we operate and can now carry on making traditional handmade cakes in volume. We make a point of buying as many of our ingredients as possible locally to support the local economy and give something back to the community.”
The bakery manufactures 30 different products, as well as bespoke products for specific corporate events.
The company said it bakes 5,000 cakes a week.
