Nairn’s has unveiled a limited-edition pack for its Rough Oatcakes designed by papercut illustrator Emily Hogarth.

Helping celebrate the Edinburgh-based snacking brand’s 130th anniversary, the special carton brings a fresh contemporary interpretation to one of its longest-standing products.

Nairn’s said its oatcakes have helped shape the brand since 1896, becoming a versatile snack enjoyed everywhere from morning commutes and countryside walks to afternoon office pick-me-ups and family adventures.

Rather than resorting to AI-generated artwork, the company commissioned local creative Emily Hogarth, which it noted reflected its commitment to craftmanship.

The artist is known for her intricate handcrafted designs and drew inspiration for the grain crops and landscapes depicted in the new Nairn’s packaging from the oat fields surrounding her studio. Working in her signature papercut style, Hogarth developed a layered design using a deliberately restrained colour palette said to echo the simplicity of Nairn’s recipes.

“For me, this project was about finding magic in something wonderfully simple. The oat has always been at the heart of Nairn’s story, and I wanted to elevate this special ingredient, showcasing it as something worthy of celebration,” commented Hogarth.

The special edition Rough Oatcakes pack will be rolled out across major UK retailers this month and will feature throughout Nairn’s 130th anniversary campaign across PR, social media, and marketing.

Nairn’s produces oatcakes, crackers, biscuits and on-the-go snacks including a full gluten-free range for the UK market as well as being exported to more than 40 countries worldwide. The company continues to innovate, launching gluten-free Caramelised Biscuit Moments and Snaks salted crackers last year.

Nairn’s was among a cohort of recipients of the latest Reformul8 Challenge Fund round in October 2025. Backed by the Scottish government, it provides food manufacturers with up to £5k towards a project focussed on positive nutritional change in products.
