Organic specialist Biona has expanded its bakery line-up with a new range of sliced breads as well as super seed toasties.

Available from September onwards, the new products target consumer demand for ‘healthy, natural organic bread’ in easy-to-use formats. The trio of sliced loaves comprises an Organic Bakehouse White Sliced, Organic Bakehouse Wholemeal Sliced, and Organic Protein Multiseed Sliced.

All three have what Biona describes as a ‘natural but short ingredient list’. The white and wholemeal loaves boast the addition of extra virgin olive oil, no added sugar, and no artificial additives, noting they are a source of protein. The protein loaf, meanwhile, provides 15g of protein per 100g. It also boasts no added sugar and artificial additives, with the addition of flax, sesame, pumpkin, and sunflower seeds making it a source of fibre.

The other new addition is the Biona Organic Super Seed Toasties which are made from 23% seeds, including flaxseeds, sunflowers seeds, and pumpkin seeds. Other ingredients include oat kernels and flakes, apple cider vinegar, psyllium husks, and pea flour. Described as perfect for breakfast, lunch or to be consumed on the go, the toasties are high in fibre and a source of protein and come in packs of four with a RRP of £3.99. They need to be toasted for three to four minutes

“The bakery category is changing with many people now looking for healthier, clean-label options to consume at the start of the day,” said Gemma Williams, head of marketing at Biona’s parent company Windmill Organics.

“With 36% of UK consumers prioritising high-fibre bread and 26% looking for breads that support gut health, we’re confident these latest additions will be well received. Not only does our new sliced bread range offer great taste and healthy credentials, but all three loaves have a longer shelf life than competitors, which reduces waste and allows more flexibility within stores and at home.”

The brand previously expanded its range in 2024 with the addition of Organic Power Protein Bread, Rustic Seeded Baguettes, and Oat Topped Wholemeal Loaves.

Protein and fibre claims are becoming increasingly common in the bakery realm, with the latter outpacing the other last year in terms of how often it appeared on new launches.
