Move over chocolate eggs, there are doughnuts, cakes, and more as bakers look to help the nation celebrate Easter this year.

There are also plenty of innovative flavoured hot cross buns, including red velvet and banoffee, available in supermarkets across the land.

Here are some of the sweet treats that have been unveiled for Easter 2023:

Chocolate & Hazelnut Easter Nest Cake, Patisserie Valerie

Patisserie Valerie has embraced the chocolatey goodness of Easter and transferred it to its cake range with an Easter nest cake and mini cakes among those on offer.

The Chocolate & Hazelnut Easter Nest Cake features layers of chocolate sponge and chocolate hazelnut cream, a dark chocolate ganache drip, white chocolate eggs with fresh cream rosettes and hand-piped swirls of Nutella topped with a Happy Easter plaque. The 10-portion cake is priced at £37.95, while the 14 portion one costs £48.95.

The Easter Mini Cake Box, meanwhile, comprises three Eggsquisite Chocolate Minis and three Eggciting Mini Surprises. All the cakes see rich chocolate sponge layered with chocolate cream and crowned with chocolate eggs in two different styles.

Hot Cross Bun Doughnuts, Crosstown

Crosstown is taking hot cross buns into the doughnut category with the launch of Hot Cross Bun Doughnuts.

The limited-edition treats are made with spiced vegan dough filled with a cinnamon custard, topped with Seville orange glaze, and finished with a spiced cross and candied orange peel. They’re available individually from Crosstown’s London, Cambridge, Oxford, and Brighton stores for £4.75 each and in Easter boxes for store collection and delivery until 11 April.

Bradfords Bakers is hopping into Easter with this Rabbit Doughnuts and Cupcake Variety Box. Each box includes three hand-dipped doughnuts complete with chocolate rabbit ears, face and feet, as well as vanilla and chocolate sponge cupcakes decorated with a variety of frostings and Easter decorations.

It is also offering an Easter Fun Box of nine cupcakes. The cupcakes, which are freshly made to order, come in chocolate and vanilla variants, and are topped with thick frosting and an Easter decoration.

Spring Fruit Cake Selection, The Original Cake Co

Can’t decide on what type of cake to have? Try them all! That’s what The Original Cake Co is offering this Easter with its two cake selection boxes.

The Fruit Cake Selection Box has nine pieces of handmade, all butter fruit cake filled with sherry-soaked sultanas. The nine individual squares are topped with marzipan, chocolate drizzle, almonds and pecans, sugar hearts and chocolate shards, and finished with a sugar flower.

The Chocolate Truffle Cake Selection Box, meanwhile, features cake which is described as the ‘perfect mix between a brownie and a rich chocolate cake’. The pieces are then decorated with a mix of chocolate and caramel drizzle, chocolate shards, chocolate curls and sugar hearts and flowers, and cut into nine squares perfect for sharing. Both boxes are priced at £15.95.

It’s also offering an Easter Brownie Slab (£22) which sees Belgian chocolate brownie topped with milk and white chocolate drizzles, milk chocolate buttons, chocolate eggs and sprinkles.

Easter Egg Hunt Tin, Biscuiteers

Spring has sprung at Biscuiteers which has unveiled a range of hand decorated biscuits for the season, including an Easter Egg Hunt Tin (£48).

The biscuit tin is new for 2023 and features 13 lemon biscuits in a variety of seasonal shapes including bunnies, butterflies, flowers, and baskets full of eggs.

It has also unveiled an Easter Tree DIY Kit (£38) which features 12 ready baked lemon flavoured Easter egg biscuits, piping bags, icing sugar, a set of colourful decorations, gold ribbons to hang your biscuits and a step-by-step guide.

Mini Egg Pinata Cake, Sponge

Online cake retailer Sponge is sticking to the classics, albeit with a twist, for its Easter range. The centrepiece is a Mini Egg Pinata Cake (from £26.50) which has four layers of chocolate sponge and chocolate buttercream covered with chocolate flakes and chocolate eggs on top.

Also in its Easter line-up is an Easter Chocolate Cake with white chocolate icing, milk chocolate flakes and Mini Eggs on top, as well as an Easter Colouring Cake which is available in Victoria sponge and chocolate variants, topped with an edible topper and edible ink pens to colour it in.

Consumers can also send Easter cards complete with cake from its website for £10.50. The card comes with two slices of cake, with a choice of gluten-free and vegan options including Nutella cake, carrot cake, mint crisp slice and a Mini Egg topped cake.
